Silden is a city in the Kingdom of the Isles in Betrayal at Krondor. It can first be visited in Chapter 1.

Geography[]

Silden is a port town located at the southeastern tip of the Eastern Kingdom, on a branch of the King's Highway to the south of a fork leading west to Lyton and north to Sloop.

The Isle of Eortis can be accessed from Silden's port.

History[]

Silden was once only a simple fishing village in the Eastern Kingdom. The Temple of Eortis was later built on an island across the channel nearby, bringing petitioners to its port. More recently, the Guild of the Riverpullers was pushed out of Silden by the splinter Guild of the Romney. The Riverpullers tried to recoup their losses by raising fees in Romney, igniting a guild war.

Abuk says that Silden is ruled by the Crawler and implies that the town constable, suborned by gold, ignores the crimes of his villainous assistants. While investigating the Crawler's activities there on behalf of the Upright Man, Lysle Rigger made a mistake and the Crawler put out a death mark for him.

Description[]

Soaked for ages in the rank perfume of fish scales and sea salt, the wharves of Silden seemed more likely a home for a race of fish men than the leather skinned sailors who trod its wooden planked docks. Traditionally the home of the less reputable, it was known for its shady transactions with the slavers of Greater Kesh.

The party smells fish while approaching the town.

Locations[]

Chapter 1[]

On the road west of Lyton, Abuk warns the party that the Crawler is convening his assistants in Silden and travelers without business there should avoid the area or risk death.

Though Locklear tries to examine the brass-plated lock, several sailors wander by and he leaves rather than risking detection.

Chapter 2[]

If the party meets Lysle Rigger, they can learn more about the Crawler's activities in the Silden area.

Three Quegian Pirates attack the party outside Silden, flinging plagued mulch at them to infect them with Quegian Fever. By asking at the Anchorhead, to Joftaz's horror, they can learn that healing might be available on the Isle of Eortis.

Chapter 3[]

After learning that a man in Silden had brokered the sale of the Brass Spyglass, the party is asked by Joftaz to steal back a box of powder from the Crawler, who has likely hidden it in his nearby house. James is then able to break into the house and retrieve the powder in exchange for information about the Silver Spider and its buyer, last seen several months ago booking sea passage to Krondor.

Abuk, on the King's Highway west of Silden, proves to be the unnamed business partner with whom Mitchel Waylander acquired the spyglass, afterwards selling it to Joftaz. In return for amnesty as to their other operations, he tells the party that the riddle chest in which items disappearing from the Prank's Stone area reappear is hidden behind a mountain west of Silden.

Chapter 6[]

The party can return to Silden for commerce or to access the Isle of Eortis.
