Baron Kevin is a Kingdom noble stationed at Highcastle in Betrayal at Krondor. He can first be encountered in Chapter 1.

Overview[]

Baron Kevin is a large red-haired man with blue eyes. He learned Tsurani war tactics while on Kelewan in service to Mara of House Acoma.

He is quoted by a woman from Zun as having said "You can kill me but you can't eat me," a strange expression that nobody could make sense of it.

Chapters 1-2[]

If the party arrives at the Highcastle fortress during the night, a haughty garrison soldier in a white tabard informs them that Baron Kevin is sleeping and does not wish to be disturbed until after dawn.

If they visit during daylight, Baron Kevin receives them in lieu of the absent Baron Troville, who is on a mission to Darkmoor. The party is received in a well-appointed study where the Baron is seated in a casement window overlooking the castle's marshalling yard, watching the activities with absorption and occasionally taking notes. He welcomes them, shares some amusing stories about unusual things happen in the border areas, and asks them to find evidence about anything unusual concerning hostile goblins who may have been trapped on the Kingdom side of Highcastle Gorge when an important bridge collapsed north of Cutter's Gap, warning that the trapped goblins may be attacking travelers for food.

If they return with the Note found on the body of a goblin after a skirmish on the road northwest of Highcastle, Baron Kevin meets them at the door and they accompany him to a small galley in the kitchens, where he shares a snack and examines their evidence. He considers the Note an obvious plant from Delekhan, intended to lure a force from Highcastle across the river and out of the way -- a tactic he saw among the Tsurani during his service on Kelewan. However, he appreciates this proof that Delekhan is undertaking an operation in the Highcastle area. Waving off any false modesty from the party, he arranges that they be given 200 sovereigns as compensation for their efforts, remarking jovially that it isn't his own money anyway and he believes Baron Troville will not mind.
