Dwarf

Dwarves are a humanoid race in Betrayal at Krondor. While none of the game's player characters are dwarves, the party passes through dwarven territories, meets various dwarven NPCs, and may use dwarven equipment during the course of the game.

Major dwarf characters include Dubal An Loch, Naddur Ban Dok, and McCannur Ban Dok. King Dolgan, who rules the Dwarves of the West, appears in the game's novelization, Krondor: The Betrayal.

Overview[]

Dwarves, one of the younger races to develop on Midkemia after the Chaos Wars gave the elves their freedom, are shorter and stockier than humans.

While they delve and maintain vast mines and tunnel systems, Kingdom dwarves mostly live in villages aboveground on the western side of the Grey Towers, also occupying Stone Mountain. One of their great underground domains, the Mac Mordain Cadal, dates back to before the founding of the Kingdom. A vast old emerald mine known among dwarves as the Mac Bourgalan Dok eventually passed out of their hands and were conveyed to the Brothers of Ishap occupying the former fortress of Sarth.

The last battle between dwarves and Kingdom soldiers, whose fury was said to have made "the battle for Sethanon look like a day at the fair," took place near Tyr-Sog. Dwarves now move freely in the Kingdom, though they are stereotyped as tight-fisted and envied for their metalworking skills and their rumored hoards of treasure.

Equipment[]

Grey Tower Plate armor is not made on the Kingdom side of the Mac Mordain Cadal.

Trivia[]

  • At Babon's Hostel, Gorath tries to amuse Grimm with a bawdy jest about a dwarf wooing an elf, emphasizing the difference in height between the two races.
